Eden Royce grew up in Charleston, South Carolina, as a member of the Gullah-Geechee nation, and her writing draws heavily on that heritage. She now lives in Kent, England, but her fiction stays rooted in the American South, its folklore, and the conjure traditions she learned from family and community. Before becoming a full-time writer, she worked as a bridal consultant, reptile handler, and stockbroker.

Her middle-grade novels include Root Magic (2021), about two siblings learning rootwork in 1963 South Carolina, which won the Mythopeic Fantasy Award and was a Nebula Award finalist. The Creepening of Dogwood House (2024) won the Bram Stoker Award. On the adult side, her Spook Lights collections bring Southern Gothic horror steeped in Black folklore, and her novella Hollow Tongue won the 2024 Shirley Jackson Award. Her most recent novel, Psychopomp & Circumstance (2025), is a historical fantasy set during Reconstruction.
