E.E. Knight has been writing genre fiction since the early 2000s, with a body of work that splits fairly cleanly between two modes: large-scale science fiction in the Vampire Earth series and high fantasy in the Age of Fire and Dragoneer Academy sequences. His debut novel, Way of the Wolf (2001), launched what would become a twelve-book post-apocalyptic saga, establishing him as a writer with the patience to build a world across many volumes.

The Vampire Earth series is the work most associated with his name. Set on a future Earth occupied by alien creatures that feed on human fear, the books follow soldier David Valentine across a resistance movement that stretches from the American South to the Appalachians and eventually into Europe. The series ran from 2001 to 2014 and rewards readers who commit to the full sequence.

Knight also worked as a tie-in novelist early in his career, contributing to the Lara Croft: Tomb Raider licensed fiction line in the early 2000s. His Age of Fire dragon series, which began in 2005, represents a different creative direction: a fantasy epic told from the perspective of dragons themselves, following sibling dragons from youth to maturity across seven books. His later Dragoneer Academy series (2019-2020) returns to dragon-centered fantasy in a younger-skewing format.
