D.P. Lyle is a practicing physician who turned his medical expertise into a second career writing crime fiction and forensic science reference books. His background in cardiology gives his fiction an unusual level of medical and scientific accuracy. He won the Macavity Award for Best Non-Fiction and has been a consultant on forensic and medical questions for many bestselling authors and several TV shows.

His longest-running fiction series is the Jake Longly mysteries, which follow a former Major League Baseball pitcher who gets pulled into criminal investigations along the Gulf Coast of Alabama, often at the urging of his private investigator father. The books are known for their humor, fast pacing, and colorful Alabama settings. Lyle also wrote the Dub Walker forensic thriller series, the Samantha Cody series, and the Cain/Harper thrillers.

Beyond fiction, Lyle has written extensively about forensic science for other writers. His non-fiction books, including Murder and Mayhem, Forensics and Fiction, and Howdunit Forensics, break down real forensic techniques in a way that helps crime novelists get the details right. He also contributed to the “For Dummies” series with Forensics for Dummies.
