Diane Ackerman (born 1948) is an American poet, essayist, and naturalist. She has written over two dozen works of non-fiction and poetry, with several reaching the New York Times bestseller list. Her most widely read books include A Natural History of the Senses (1990), The Zookeeper’s Wife (2007), and The Human Age (2014).

A Natural History of the Senses explores the five human senses through a combination of science, history, and personal observation. The Zookeeper’s Wife, which recounts the true story of Polish zookeepers who rescued hundreds of Jews during World War II, won the Orion Book Award and was made into a major motion picture in 2017.
