Denny S. Bryce debuted with Wild Women and the Blues in 2021, a dual-timeline novel set in 1920s Chicago that brought jazz-age Black culture to life. Her follow-up, In the Face of the Sun (2022), used a similar dual-timeline structure to explore Los Angeles across decades.
The Other Princess (2023) marked a shift to biographical fiction, telling the story of Sarah Forbes Bonetta, an African princess who became Queen Victoria’s goddaughter. Can’t We Be Friends (2024) explored the friendship between Ella Fitzgerald and Marilyn Monroe. Bryce continues to publish historical fiction that puts Black women at the center of American and world history.
