David Weber was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1952. He served in the US Army after graduating from Appalachian State University with degrees in history and political science. On Basilisk Station, the first Honor Harrington novel, published in 1992 after Baen Books editor Toni Weisskopz asked for a series inspired by C.S. Forester’s Horatio Hornblower but translated to space opera.
The Honor Harrington series follows Honor through sixteen main-series novels spanning thirty years in-universe. Weber writes with attention to military detail, political consequences, and technological progression. The series expands through multiple sub-series: Manticore Ascendant prequels (co-authored with Timothy Zahn) explain how the Star Kingdom formed; Crown of Slaves follows intelligence operations; Saganami Island centers on other officers; WINT anthologies collect shorter tales.
Beyond Honor Harrington, Weber created several other series. Safehold follows an alternative history where humanity hides from genocide. Dahak involves ancient astronaut archaeology. Bahzell Bahnakson is heroic fantasy about a hradani warrior. Weber has also contributed to Warhammer, Destinos, and other licensed universes.
