David B. Coe began his career with the Lon Tobyn Chronicle, a traditional epic fantasy trilogy starting with Children of Amarid (1997). He went on to write the five-book Winds of the Forelands series and its follow-up trilogy, Blood of the Southlands, building a body of work in secondary-world fantasy with political intrigue and magic systems rooted in personal cost.
Under the pen name D.B. Jackson, Coe wrote the Thieftaker Chronicles, set in pre-Revolutionary Boston. The series follows Ethan Kaille, a thieftaker who uses conjuring to solve crimes, and blends real historical events with fantasy elements. The main novels were supplemented by several short stories and novellas set in the same world. His Justis Fearsson series takes a similar approach to urban fantasy but in a modern setting, following a private investigator in Phoenix who casts spells fueled by the full moon.
More recently, Coe has written the Islevale Cycle, a time-travel fantasy series, and Radiants, which explores themes of immigration and prejudice through a fantasy lens. He has also contributed to numerous anthologies over his career.
