Daisy Goodwin started her career in British television, spending over two decades as a producer on shows like Grand Designs and Escape to the Country. Her first published works were poetry anthologies, beginning with The Nation’s Favourite Love Poems in 1997. She went on to edit more than a dozen themed poetry collections, including the popular 101 Poems series, before turning to fiction.

Goodwin’s debut novel, My Last Duchess (published in the US as The American Heiress), came out in 2010 and told the story of a wealthy American girl navigating the social hazards of 1890s English aristocracy. The Fortune Hunter followed in 2013, a Victorian love triangle based on the real lives of Charlotte Baird, Captain Bay Middleton, and Empress Elizabeth of Austria. In 2016, she created the ITV series Victoria, dramatizing the early years of Queen Victoria’s reign. The show ran for three seasons and sold to 146 countries.

Her most recent novel, Diva (2024), tells the story of Maria Callas and her relationship with Aristotle Onassis. Goodwin also published the memoir Silver River (2007), about her own family’s history stretching from Argentina to England. Her work consistently draws on real historical figures and personal stories.
