Cherie Dimaline is a Metis writer from the Georgian Bay Metis Community in Ontario, Canada. She gained widespread recognition with The Marrow Thieves (2017), a young adult dystopian novel about Indigenous youth in a future where most people have lost the ability to dream. The book won both the Governor General’s Award and the Kirkus Prize.
Dimaline’s other works include Empire of Wild (2019), a literary thriller drawing on Metis legends, and VenCo (2023). She was the first Indigenous Writer in Residence at the Toronto Public Library and received the Emerging Artist of the Year award at the Ontario Premier’s Award for Excellence in the Arts in 2014. Her fiction consistently centers Indigenous stories, communities, and ways of knowing.
