Celia Rees has written extensively for young readers since the early 1990s, producing work that spans horror, historical fiction, and supernatural fantasy. Her Point Horror Unleashed books brought genuinely creepy storytelling to younger audiences, while the H.A.U.N.T.S. series offered quick, chilling reads organized around an alphabetic theme. These early horror titles established her as a writer who took teen readers seriously enough to scare them.

Her best-known work is probably the Witch Child duology, which follows a young woman accused of witchcraft in colonial America. The books combine historical research with a gripping narrative, and they introduced many readers to Rees’s ability to write about the past in a way that feels immediate and personal. She continued in the historical vein with Pirates! and Sovay, both featuring young women who defy the constraints of their time.

Rees’s later career has moved toward adult fiction while maintaining her interest in history.
