Candice Carty-Williams (born July 21, 1989) is a British writer who grew up in South London. Before writing fiction, she worked in publishing and created the Guardian and 4th Estate BAME Short Story Prize to address the underrepresentation of authors of color in the industry.
Her debut novel Queenie (2019) became a sensation, entering the Sunday Times Bestseller chart at number two. The novel follows Queenie Jenkins, a British-Jamaican woman having a difficult year, and explores identity, mental health, and relationships. At the 2020 British Book Awards, Carty-Williams became the first Black woman to win the Book of the Year award.
Her second novel, People Person (2022), follows five half-siblings who share the same absent father.
