Brent Weeks is an American fantasy author known for the Night Angel trilogy and the Lightbringer series. Both series are known for intricate magic systems, morally complex characters, and action-packed plots.
Weeks grew up in Montana and studied at Hillsdale College in Michigan. He worked as a bartender and wrote his first novel during the night shift. The Way of Shadows, the first Night Angel book, was published in 2008 and became a New York Times bestseller.
The Night Angel trilogy follows Azoth, a guild rat in the slums who becomes an apprentice to the legendary assassin Durzo Blint. The series is darker in tone, dealing with themes of identity, redemption, and the cost of violence.
The Lightbringer series, beginning with The Black Prism in 2010, features a unique magic system based on light and color. The five-book series concluded in 2019 with The Burning White. In 2023, Weeks returned to the Night Angel world with Night Angel Nemesis, a new novel set after the original trilogy.
