Bob Drury has spent decades turning American military history into compelling narrative non-fiction. A former magazine editor and journalist, he has written or co-written 18 non-fiction books covering subjects from World War II (Halsey’s Typhoon, Lucky 666) to the Korean War (The Last Stand of Fox Company) to the American frontier (Red Cloud, The Heart of Everything That Is). His work with co-author Tom Clavin has produced several New York Times bestsellers.
Drury’s books consistently bring forgotten or underappreciated military stories to a wide audience. Valley Forge (2018) reexamined the Continental Army’s legendary winter encampment, Blood and Treasure (2021) followed the Lewis and Clark connection to the wider American story, and The Last Hill (2022) told the story of a World War II battle. The Phantom (2026) continues his tradition of uncovering dramatic military narratives.
