The Blood Books by Tanya Huff follow Vicki Nelson, a former Toronto homicide detective who left the force due to failing eyesight. She becomes a private investigator and teams up with Henry Fitzroy, a 450-year-old vampire and romance novelist. Blood Price (1991) opens the series with a string of demon-summoned murders.
The Smoke Trilogy picks up with Tony Foster, a supporting character from the Blood Books, who now works as a production assistant on a vampire TV show. When real supernatural threats start interfering with the set, Tony has to deal with them. The Blood Books inspired the TV series Blood Ties (2007).
