Bill Wallace (1947-2012) was an American children’s book author who grew up in Oklahoma. He began writing to entertain his fourth-grade students, who loved his stories so much they encouraged him to publish real books. His debut, A Dog Called Kitty (1980), won multiple state awards and launched a career spanning nearly three decades and over sixty titles.

Wallace’s books are mostly animal stories set in rural America, featuring dogs, cats, and farm animals. Titles like Beauty, Red Dog, Snot Stew, and Ferret in the Bedroom, Lizards in the Fridge became favorites in elementary school libraries across the country. He received the Arrell Gibson Lifetime Achievement Award for Children’s Literature, and his books remain popular with young readers today.
