Bernard B. Kerik served as New York City’s Police Commissioner during the September 11 attacks, and his writing draws heavily on his experiences in law enforcement and the criminal justice system. His first book, The Lost Son (2001), is a memoir about his rise from a difficult childhood to the top of the NYPD. From Jailer to Jailed (2015) covers his fall from public life after criminal charges and his time in federal prison.
In 2018, Kerik published The Grave Above the Grave, his first work of fiction. His books offer an insider’s view of policing, politics, and the justice system from someone who experienced both its power and its consequences firsthand.
