Avi Loeb is a professor of astronomy at Harvard University who gained widespread public attention for his claim that the interstellar object ‘Oumuamua, detected in 2017, might have been a piece of alien technology. His first popular book, Extraterrestrial: The First Sign of Intelligent Life Beyond Earth (2021), made the case for taking that possibility seriously and became a bestseller.
His second book, Interstellar: The Search for Extraterrestrial Life and Our Future in the Stars (2023), expanded on his research and described the Galileo Project, his initiative to use scientific instruments to search for physical evidence of extraterrestrial civilizations. Loeb’s work has sparked both interest and debate within the scientific community.
