Ashton Lattimore is a Harvard College and Harvard Law School graduate who also studied at Columbia Journalism School. Before turning to fiction, she worked as a journalist with bylines in the Washington Post, Slate, CNN, and Essence, and served as editor-in-chief of Prism.
Her debut novel, All We Were Promised (2024), was named one of the best books of the year by the Washington Post, NPR, and She Reads Philadelphia. Set in 1830s Philadelphia, the novel traces how a housemaid, a society girl, and an enslaved woman cross paths in a city where freedom is close but never guaranteed.
