Antonia Hodgson is a British author and publishing executive whose fiction career is built on the Tom Hawkins historical mystery series. The series, which began with The Devil in the Marshalsea in 2014, is set in 1720s London and follows Tom Hawkins, a clergyman’s son with a gambling problem, as he becomes entangled in murder investigations. The first book takes place inside the Marshalsea debtors’ prison, one of London’s most infamous institutions.
The series has grown to four English-language novels, with The Last Confession of Thomas Hawkins (2015), A Death at Fountains Abbey (2016), and The Silver Collar (2020) taking Hawkins to different corners of Georgian London. The books have been translated into German, and Hodgson has also begun a new series, The Eternal Path, with The Raven Scholar published in 2025.
