Anissa Gray is an Emmy and duPont Award-winning journalist who spent more than two decades at CNN as a writer, editor, and Senior Editor before turning to fiction. She grew up in western Michigan, graduated from Western Michigan University, and earned a Master’s in English and American Literature from New York University.
Her debut novel, The Care and Feeding of Ravenously Hungry Girls (2019), follows three sisters after the eldest is arrested for financial fraud, forcing the family to confront long-buried pain. The book was named a most-anticipated read of 2019 by Vogue, Vanity Fair, and The Washington Post, and was optioned for a television adaptation by Gabrielle Union’s production company.
Her second novel, Life and Other Love Songs (2023), traces a Detroit-area family across three decades as they reckon with a father’s mysterious disappearance and the traumatic history he left behind. Both books use rotating perspectives among family members to build layered portraits of people struggling with secrets, loss, and the possibility of healing.
