Alison Belsham is a British crime writer based between London and Edinburgh. She originally set out to write for the screen and was commended in the 2000 Orange Prize for Screenwriting and shortlisted in a 2001 BBC Drama Writer competition. After a break for family life, she turned to fiction and in 2016 pitched The Tattoo Thief at Bloody Scotland’s Pitch Perfect competition. The pitch won, landing her an agent and a three-book deal with Orion’s Trapeze imprint.
The Tattoo Thief, her debut novel, was translated into fifteen languages and reached number one on the Italian bestseller charts. The Sullivan and Mullins trilogy follows tattoo artist Marni Mullins and DI Francis Sullivan as they investigate serial killers in Brighton. Her second series, Detective Lexi Bennett, moves to Canterbury, Kent, and features a DI whose personal history as a triplet abduction survivor shapes her approach to cases.
Belsham co-writes the MacKenzie and Khan thriller series with her brother Nick Higgins, drawing on his experience working in Afghanistan as a security advisor. She is also a co-founder of the Edinburgh Writers’ Forum and works as a writing coach.
