Alastair MacNeill is a thriller writer best known for his work on the UNACO series, which was originally created by Alistair MacLean. UNACO (United Nations Anti-Crime Organization) is a fictional international task force, and the series follows its agents through globe-trotting action and espionage plots. The first two books, Hostage Tower (1980) and Air Force One Is Down (1981), were based on outlines by MacLean himself. After MacLean died in 1987, MacNeill continued the series solo, writing eight more UNACO novels through 1998.

Outside of UNACO, MacNeill wrote six standalone thrillers published between 1995 and 1999, including Rendezvous, The Devil’s Door, and Moonblood. These books have similar action-thriller sensibilities to the UNACO novels but are not part of that series. MacNeill’s work generally follows in the tradition of MacLean’s own writing: fast-paced plots with military and intelligence settings.
