Alan Parks is a Scottish author who writes crime fiction set in 1970s Glasgow. His Harry McCoy series follows a detective working through cases in a city marked by poverty, gang violence, and corruption. The first book, Bloody January, came out in 2017 and introduced McCoy as a flawed but persistent investigator with his own ties to the criminal world.
Parks has published six books in the series so far, each named after a successive month of the year. The titles run from Bloody January through To Die In June (2023), and each story is set during its namesake month. The books have drawn comparisons to other Glasgow-set crime fiction, with Parks bringing a historian’s eye to the period detail and a noir writer’s taste for morally gray characters.
