Alan Glynn is an Irish writer from Dublin whose debut novel The Dark Fields (2001) imagined a drug that unlocks the full potential of the human brain. The book attracted Hollywood attention and was turned into the 2011 film Limitless with Bradley Cooper. A CBS television series followed in 2015. The novel was reissued under the Limitless title after the film’s release, and Glynn later revisited similar themes in Receptor (2018, also published as Under the Night), a thriller about a brain-enhancing pharmaceutical with dangerous side effects.
Between these projects, Glynn wrote the Loose Trilogy, a sequence of three standalone-but-connected thrillers set during and after the Celtic Tiger era in Ireland. Winterland (2008), Bloodland (2011), and Graveland (2013) deal with property speculation, political cover-ups, and financial collapse. His standalone novel Paradime (2016) explores identity and technology in the digital age. Glynn studied at Trinity College Dublin and University College Dublin, and worked in New York and Italy before returning to Dublin to write full-time.
