Al Lamanda was born in The Bronx and spent most of his life in Manhattan. He served in the United States Marine Corps and worked as a private investigator and professional bodyguard in New York, Massachusetts, and Florida before turning to fiction. His debut novel, Dunston Falls, received strong reviews from Kirkus and Publishers Weekly.
His longest-running series is the John Bekker Mysteries, which follows a retired detective through eight novels beginning with Sunset in 2012. The fifth entry, With Six You Get Wally, won the Nero Wolfe Award for Best Mystery of the Year. He also writes the Kellerman series, the Duncan Wyatt and Lo-Lo Del Ray mysteries set in Key West, and the Assassin’s Creed thrillers.
Under the pen name Ethan J. Wolfe, Lamanda has also written a dozen historical western novels, including the popular Regulator series. An avid weightlifter and boxer in his spare time, he has published more than twenty novels and several screenplays across his career.
