Abi Dare grew up in Lagos, Nigeria, attending the Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls before moving to the United Kingdom for higher education. She holds a law degree from the University of Wolverhampton and a master’s with distinction in creative writing from Birkbeck, University of London. Her debut novel, The Girl with the Louding Voice, won the Bath Novel Award and was published in 2020 to wide acclaim.
The Girl with the Louding Voice became a New York Times bestseller and was picked for the Today Show’s “Read with Jenna” book club and BBC Radio 4’s Book at Bedtime. It has been translated into more than 24 languages. Her second novel, And So I Roar (2024), is a sequel that picks up just days after the first book ends. It won the inaugural Climate Fiction Prize. Dare also published the essay You Are Not Going Back (2021) as part of the anthology Of This Our Country, which features personal essays from 24 Nigerian writers. She founded The Louding Voice Foundation, a nonprofit supporting the education of girls in underserved communities in Nigeria.
